Most countries have a military force designed to protect inhabitants and control and protect the countries borders .
This military unit is usually manned with trained personnel called soldiers .
The soldiers make up a large component of the military and are generally trained in many areas including
armed defence

and strategic military planning to enable waging of war.
Some countries such as Israel and Italy have a compulsory national service period where nationals are required to complete a period of military training usually after full time study has ceased and prior to working .
Their are several types of soldiers such as trained tank personnel , armed artillery , mounted squad and foot soldiers .
